• Jorge Fonseca

    Judo

Jorge Fonseca arrived in Portugal at the age of 11 and started practicing judo at the age of 14.

Although his first contact with the sport came late in life, his progress was rapid. Fonseca had and still has an innate talent for judo. The first Portuguese European under-23 champion, he was at the London Olympics in 2016, where he fell just short of becoming Olympic champion.

In the future, he wants the medal that none of his predecessors managed to win; the Olympic Games.

He sees winning as a goal and an addiction. Seven times national club champion and twice winner of the Champions League, he had a golden 2019, reaching the highest point of his career in Tokyo, where he became World Champion in -100 kg, making history by once again being the first Portuguese to reach such a level.

Curiously or not, it will be in Tokyo that he will be chasing Olympic gold.
