    He is a benchmark in national cycling. He won the Tour of Portugal in 2000, after coming second four times. He gave up road cycling in 2004 due to a health problem and devoted himself to mountain biking, marketing and training other athletes. He made a symbolic and inspiring return to the Tour of Portugal at the age of 44, and continues to win titles in national and international mountain bike races.
